Miles Cary (Elisha, Elphinston) was born 1796 in Nansemond County, Virginia and died 1834. He married Elizabeth Clemmons on January 9, 1821 in Wilkes County Georgia; they had a son Elisha E. Cary about 1822. (She died about 1830) He married Zilpah Harper on October 4, 1831 in Warren County, Georgia. (She was born 1815)
In 1826 Miles Cary and James Cary both or Warren County, Georgia appointed Thomas Stokes of Franklin County North Carolina to act as their power of attorney to receive and sell that which might be due to them as heirs and legatees of their Aunt Nancy Williams, deceased, of Hertford County, North Carolina.
Recorded December 13, 1826; book 23 page 28, Franklin County records.Following the death of Elizabeth about 1830, Miles remarried to Zilpah Harper in Warren County Ga. On October4, 1831. They had a son, Edward A. Cary in 1834.

March 17, 1832, Miles is charged by the church for drinking to much spiritous liquor but was restored to fellowship after confessing of his sins.
June 13, 1832. Miles Cary is witness to will of Reuben Rogers, additional witness is Edward Harper.
September 15, 1832 Miles is again charged with drinking to much spirtious liquor and is disfellowshiped on October 20, 1832.
December 15, 1832. Miles Cary is cited for un-christian like conduct and is excommunicated on January 16, 1833.

Miles married (2) Zilpah Harper on 4 Oct 1831 in Warren County Georgia. Zilpah was born 1 in 1815. She was christened 2 on 9 Sep 1837 in Williams Creek Baptist Church.
Zilpha was a young girl of sixteen when she married Miles Cary 35yrs. She had a son with Miles when she was ninteen (Edward H. Cary) She is listed in members directory of Williams Creek Baptist Church 1839, 1840, 1841.
On November 11, 1854 Zipha (now with the last name of Kirkland) was given a letter of dismissal from the church. She married John N. Kirkland who was nine years younger than she. John, Zilpha and Edward Cary are listed in the 1850 Census of Warren County Georgia, where Edward is 16 years of age.
November 9th 1839 a Rebecca Harper, believed to be the sister of Zilpha Cary; is charged with fornication and admits as much to James Cary. She is excommunicated, however is found to be a member of New Providence Baptist Church at a later date. The records of Raytown Baptist Church indicates that Rebecca Harper died 1892.
September 12, 1843 a Sarah Harper is baptised into Williams Creek Baptist Church. No idea of her relationship with Zilpha.
Edward Harper and Hannah Yarborough are married May 21, 1803, Warren County Ga. Zilpha may be the daughter of Edward and Hannah.

Cary) two boys between 5-10 years of age (Marion 10 and Newton 8?) and one girl under five years of age (Elizabeth Cary) James is listed as between 20-30 years of age but would have been 32 years old at the time. His wife Nancy is listed as 20-30 as she was thirty years at the time. Nancy and James would have been married for only four years at the time of this census, so this would give Marion and Newton a different mother who is unknown at this time.

Cary (nephew of James Cary) and father of Mildred Clemmons, Elisha E. Cary's wife. It should also be noted that Miles Cary, the father of Elisha E. Cary, was also married to a Clemmons.
James Cary was baptised into the Baptist Church at Williams Creek, Warren County Georgia. May 16, 1835. His wife Nancy was baptised on September 11, 1831. James was a faithful member and was listed along with Nancy and Zilpha Cary (Miles Cary's wife) as a member in good standing 1839, 1840 and 1941 membership lists.
February 13, 1841, James was assigned to be a correspondant to New Providence church, Wilkes County Georgia.
April 10, 1841 he goes to New Providence to settle a dispute.
May 8, 1841 he is assigned as correspondant to Warrenton Church.
May 7, 1842 James is assigned to cite UT Lockett.
On February 8, 1845. Letter of dismission were given to James and Nancy Cary, also on the same date Marion and Newton Cary were given letters. Note: Letters of dismission were given to members in good standing whom move out of the bounds of the church and the letter is given to the pastor of the new church where the members move to.
James must have died between 1845 and 1850 because he is not listed in the 1850 census with "Nancy Carry" and the rest of the family. Nancy Cary would end up in Washington County Geogia where she is found in the 1860 and 1870 census with her family.

Nancy is noted as becomeing a member of Williams Creek baptist church on September 11, 1831, she was thirty one years of age. She is also listed as a member of Williams Creek church 1839, 1840 and 1841. On September 13, 1845 James and Nancy are given a letter of dismission so they can join another congregation and presumed to have moved from the area. Nancy is noted in the 1850 census for Taliaferro County, 1860 census of Washington County Ga. as Nancy Carey, Nancy is also listed in the 1870 census of Washington County as Nancy Carey age 68 but she was probably 70.

He died 2 on 20 Feb 1864 in Battle of Ocean Pond, Florida.
Private Joseph Cary, Georgia 28th regiment, company B, was killed in battle February 20, 1864 as a confederate soldier, at the battle of Ocean Pond near Jacksonville Florida. He enlisted September 10, 1861 and was scheduled to be discharged on November 30, 1863 but may have extended his enlistment for the benifit of his younger brother Miles (Robert Cary) (MIA) who joined the regiment November of 1863 at James Island. He was a battle hard individual who was captured Sept 14, 1862 at South Mountain and released in a prisoner exchange October 2, 1862 Aikens Landing Virginia and was in the hospital at Camp Winder, Richmond Virginia before returning to his regiment.13 F vi Josephine Cary was born 1 in 1839 in Taliaferro County Georgia. She died ?.

Miles R. Cary AKA Robert Cary is a Civil War veteran and a member of the 28th regiment, company B. Georgia infantry. He enlisted November 25, 1863 at James Island, South Carolina, by Captain Franklin.
June 30, 1864 M.R. Cary is on the muster roll as hospital staff at Stuart Hospital, Richmond Virginia.
June 1864 Robert Cary is issued clothing at Stuart Hospital, Richmond Virginia.
July 3, 1864 W.R. Cary is admitted for Rubeola (measels) at Stuart Hospital (note: this is probably Miles Robert Cary because he was of the same regiment and company of M.R. Cary)
